When we start dealing with a new trip, there are two main costs that we have to take into account: accommodation and flights. For accommodation, there are several options available to fit into different budgets. However, when we book the flights, it seems we have no choice but to spend a lot just to get to our destination. But it does not have to be this way! We've been looking for the best flights since 2008 and below we leave you our best tips for booking cheaper flights on your next adventure:
USE THE BEST RESEARCH TOOLS
Nowadays, there are many websites where we can search and book flights. But not everyone has the best discounts and opportunities! We recommend Skyscanner - it's the website we use the most and where we can easily compare prices on different days with different airlines.
BE FLEXIBLE WITH THE DATES ...
If you have the possibility of being flexible with the dates of your trip, consider traveling on the cheapest days. At Skyscanner you can also search for the cheapest days and months to make your trip. You can choose the "flexible date" option and search for flights with +/- 3 days difference from your ideal dates. Sometimes a small difference in days can have a huge impact on the price of flights!
... OR WITH DESTINATION!
If you have not decided exactly where you want to go, you can also search on Skyscanner for the cheapest destinations. Skyscanner has even a "look everywhere" option, giving you cheap flight prices to destinations from your city. It's a great option to do a survey of these - more than to inspire you for your next adventure!
FLY WITH LOW-COST AIRLINES
Traveling with low-cost airlines is not always ideal: we wait at smaller airport doors, we do not have the meal included during the flight and we lose some comfort on board. But if what matters to you is to get to your destination in the most economical way, then these airlines are the best option! Nowadays, airlines like TAP also already offer low-cost fares, and it may be worth investigating these prices.
BOOK THE FLIGHTS IN ADVANCE
Flight prices increase as the departure date approaches, but there is an ideal time to book when flight prices are lower. So do not wait until the last minute, but do not mark your flights well in advance! Ideally, you should wait up to 6-8 weeks before your departure to purchase the flights. (However, if you are traveling during the high season of your destination, 3 months in advance is ideal.)
BOOK THE CONNECTION FLIGHTS IN OTHER RESERVATION
Long-distance travel will almost always require them to make at least two flights. When you do your research for these kinds of trips, see what flights they will have to catch and look for the prices of these flights separately - sometimes it can come out much cheaper! Do not forget to leave enough time between flights to change planes.
If you regularly travel with a particular airline, you only have to earn it by joining a points program or miles from that airline. They are able to win great upgrades and sometimes even discounts on scheduled flights!
