Booking flights for us has already become second nature and we want to share everything we learn with you! In addition to the 7 tips that we have left here, we also want to leave you our warnings of the main mistakes to avoid when you book your flight! These are common mistakes that must be taken care of in order to avoid buying too expensive flights or even with hidden costs:
DO NOT SEE FLIGHTS TO ALTERNATIVE AIRPORTS
Many of the world's major cities have more than one large airport where they can depart or reach international flights. Often, flights to these airports are much cheaper as they are airports that are further away from the city center. To find flights from these airports at Skyscanner, simply click on "All airports". The extra time to get to your destination may be worth it!
DO NOT HAVE ANY EXTRA COSTS
Always read all conditions of the flight you are buying. Often there are extra costs that we have to take into account, for example, with the cancellation or postponement of the flight or if they are paying with a type of credit card. If you book your flight with a low-cost carrier, also confirm the extra cost to carry-on or pick up your seat. It does not always pay for a cheaper flight if you have to have other costs aside.
WAIT TOO MUCH TIME TO CHECK THE FLIGHT
As we have already recommended, there is an ideal time to buy the flights at the best prices. Big discounts can sometimes come at the last minute, but overall, flight prices are increasing as the departure date approaches. So do not wait too long to book your flight! Between 6 to 8 weeks (or 3 months if traveling during high season) before the departure date is the best time to book your flight and get the best prices.
DO NOT BE FLEXIBLE WITH THE DATES
We have already told you this, but we must repeat: one of the biggest mistakes you can make when booking your flight is to not be flexible with the dates of departure or arrival. We know that this is not always possible, but if you have that option, always research your flights with flexible dates. So often, a small difference of days makes a huge difference in price!
DO NOT CONFIRM EVERYTHING BEFORE MARKING
Booking flights can be a stressful process - we want to make sure that we have found the best price and the most comfortable ride. But after so many hours spent on the computer and so much research done, you will find your perfect flight! Now do not forget to do one last thing: confirm everything before you book. Even those simple things like travel dates, flight times, airports and cancellation terms. They do not want to end up booking a flight that later was not the one they wanted!
