Top 10 things to do in a honeymoon in Italy

Italy is, without a doubt, one of the most romantic countries in the world. Its breathtaking landscapes, historic cities, picturesque streets, delicious food – everything in Italy is romantic.

We’ve had the opportunity to visit Italy more than once and we’ve traveled through the country so here are our suggestions for the 10 things you must do if you choose it for your honeymoon:

1

TRAVEL IN TIME IN ROME

Legend says Roma was founded in 753 BC and everyone knows this was the capital of one of the greatest empires in ancient times. So, it’s not surprising that this city is full of monuments, museums and ancient ruins filled with stories to tell! The truth is that it’s impossible to see everything Rome has to offer in a few days. So, we recommend you start in the historic center. Here, you’ll be able to feel the history of the great Roman Empire and visit its main monuments.

2

RIDE A GONDOLA IN VENICE

Venice is for lovers. The scent of the sea, the sound of gondolas floating down the canals, the picturesque facadas of the colorful Venetian buildings: in Venice, everything comes together to create an absolutely romantic and enchanting atmosphere around us. And there is nothing more romantic than riding a gondola through the enchanted canals of the Floating City. Legend says that couples who kiss on a gondola under the bridge at sunset will be granted eternal love!

3

TAKE IN THE VIEWS IN FLORENCE

Piazza della Signoria is the best known square in the city, but it’s on Piazzale Michelangelo that you can admire the most breathtaking views. The truth is, there is no better place in Florence to spend an afternoon than this square that offers a magical panoramic view of the city. From its highest point, you can admire the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the Arno river from a totally different perspective and even get a glimpse of the Tuscan hills on the horizon.

4

ADMIRE THE MILAN DUOMO

The Milan Duomo is one of the largest gothic cathedrals in the world and undoubtedly the most elegant and impressive we have seen to date. Its construction started in 1387 and only finished 600 years later! Don’t miss the opportunity to climb up to the top and observe the whole city around you – in days with good visibility, you can even see the Alps!

5

VISIT CASA DI GIULIETA IN VERONA

There is no better way to relive one of the most tragic literary romances than to visit the house that inspired its writer. It was exactly at Casa di Giulieta where, in Shakespeare’s fiction, Romeo would meet Juliet. But here, myth and reality easily blend and it’s not hard to let yourself be enchanted by this great love.

6

PHOTOGRAPH THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA

One of Italy’s most famous monuments, this leaning tower is the star of many an Instagram photo and Facebook post of tourists returning home. The truth is, this tower was originally built in the 12th century as an erect structure. But it was built on sandy ground and on top of a 3m deep block of stone which ended up not being enough to sustain its weight of approximately 14.5 tonnes. That’s what results in its 4º inclination (about 40m of inclination) in its almost 60m of height!

7

EAT PIZZA IN NAPLES

As you already know, our original itinerary for our train trip through Italy included a stop in what is known as the birthplace of pizza: Naples. In this charming city, where there is for sure more to get to know than just that thin dough with cheese and tomato sauce, what really interested us was to taste our favorite dish again and again until we discovered the impossible: Italy’s best pizzeria. We couldn’t do it on this trip, but it’s one more (delicious) reason to return!

8

SHOP IN BOLOGNA

It seems like all Italians have a flawless sense of style and it’s not difficult to understand why! From the fashion capital in Milan to the beautiful galleries in Bologna, there isn’t a shortage of opportunities for Italians to follow the latest trends. André ended up visiting Bologna on a solo trip and he absolutely recommends the stores on Via dell’Indipendenza to do some shopping (or just to window shop)!

9

DRIVE ALONG THE PATH OF LOVE IN CINQUE TERRE

This road in Cinque Terre is a must on any couple’s trip to Italy! It was one of the things we were most looking forward to doing in Italy but that, unfortunately, we weren’t able to do due to some last-minute changes. In any case, we know that this road which connects Rigomaggiore to Manarola is a magical place that looks even better when experienced as a couple.

10

RECEIVE VIP TREATMENT ON CAPRI ISLAND

And because a list of must-dos in Italy isn’t complete without a little daydreaming, why not be treated as VIPs in one of the most stunning islands of Italy? Capri has been the it destination for the most famous Hollywood stars for decades. Luxury hotels, breathtaking views and a refined atmosphere are what attract celebrities who come here to relax and unwind.
